Fingerprint Identification

Automated Fingerprint Identification

The PAPILLON AFIS/APIS system enables creating, storing and functioning of electronic databases of tenprint and latent records, and automates the process of fingerprint and palmprint identification helping to solve a wide range of vital tasks

  • Personal identification by fingerprints and palmprints, including real-time identification by a single print when performing in-the-field identity checks
  • Identification of the unknown dead
  • Ascertainment of implication in past crimes
  • Consolidation of crimes committed by one and the same person

Tenprint entry Poor-quality latent fingerprint identified by 6 minutes. Its true match is on top of candidate list (database of 1,350,000 tenprint records). Latent palmprint identified by 35 minutes. The arrows show relative orientation of the search and file prints. Latent-to-latent identification.

The PAPILLON AFIS/APIS is being widely deployed throughout the Russian Federation ensuring automation of fingerprint and palmprint files, including criminal, under the Law "Of National Fingerprint Enrollment". At the heart of every of the biggest in Russia automated fingerprint data banks of federal, interregional or regional levels is the PAPILLON AFIS/APIS. To date, all of the fingerprint and palmprint paper files amassed in our country have been converted to electronic format of PAPILLON.

  • Input and storage of electronic tenprint cards that contain alphanumeric descriptive information, rolled and plain fingerprints, palmprints, classification formula, mugshots, SMT photos, verbal portrait
  • Input and storage of latent fingerprints and latent palmprints lifted at crime scenes
  • Import and export of tenprint and latent files of ANSI/NIST format
  • Automatic searches initiated for every newly entered object: tenprint-to-tenprint, tenprint-to-latent (fingerprint, palmprints), latent (fingerprint, palmprint)-to-tenprint, latent-to-latent
  • Automatic searches of the database using individual's verbal portrait
  • Automated derivation of classification formulae
  • Database maintenance: selection of objects with specific properties, list sorting, record purging and editing, etc.
  • Display and printout of any graphic information (tenprint and latent print images, mugshots, etc.)
  • Printout of any document, list, work sheet, search report or other statistical information
  • Distributable architecture capability: remote entry of fingerprint and palmprint data, remote access to Central Database
  • Interaction with other types of automated databases

System Architecture

Fundamentally, our system is based on the client-server architecture model enabling the AFIS workstations independently make service requests to the server that accepts and replies to these requests.

Data entry, image processing and bringing objects to standard form for storage are carried out at the workstation, while the automatic process of database insertion is initiated on the server.

A search is conducted for every newly entered object that is compared to those in the database. The object is considered filed and based only after the search is completed.
